Colobus

Japanese: Colobus
Colobus

…A general term for Old World monkeys belonging to the genus Colobus , family Cercopithecidae, order of primates. All species of the genus Colobus are native to Africa, but the term can also refer to the entire subfamily Colobinae, including those from Asia. The name Colobus comes from the Greek word kolobos, meaning "torn off," because the thumbs of the monkeys have degenerated to vestigial form. The degeneration of the thumb is not as noticeable in Asian monkeys. Colobus monkeys have thick tails longer than their bodies, and are relatively large and slender.
