...The inscriptions also become longer as military deeds and ceremonial achievements that led to the award are written in. Typical examples of bronze inscriptions from the early Western Zhou period include the Ling Yi, which was made in connection with the ceremony for the appointment of officials in Chengzhou (Luoyi), and the Yi Hou, which describes feudal lords in foreign lands. The mid-Western Zhou period was a major turning point for the Shang-Zhou bronze culture. For example, the bronze set changed from one focused on wine vessels to one focused on tableware, and iconographic symbols also disappeared. During this period, elements from the Shang period were wiped out.
