Coater (English name) Kota

Japanese: コーター（英語表記）Kota

A city in the southeastern tip of Rajasthan, northwest India. Population 538,000 (1991). It occupies the upper reaches of the Chambal River, which flows into the Marwa Plateau. The river valley plain stretches across, and is irrigated by a canal from the Kota Dam, which was completed as part of the Chambal River Development Plan. Wheat, cotton, and sorghum are collected and distributed, and industries such as spinning, matches, and metal processing are based here. In the early 17th century, it became the capital of the Kota Kingdom, which continued to exist as a princely state even under British rule. The palace from that time remains, and the manuscripts in the museum's collection are famous.

インド北西部，ラージャスターン州南東端の都市。人口53万8000(1991)。マールワー高原へと至るチャンバル川上流域を占める。河谷平野が広がり，同川開発計画により完成したコーター･ダムからの用水路によって灌漑される。小麦，綿花，モロコシを集散し，紡績，マッチ，金属加工などの工業が立地。17世紀初めにコーター王国の主都となり，英領下でも王国は藩王国として存続した。当時の宮殿が残り，博物館所蔵の写本は著名である。
