Rhyton (English spelling)
A type of ancient drinking tableware. It is a horn or horn-shaped cup, or is shaped like an animal's head, with an opening at the neck. The throat is often curved back, or the horns are often used as handles. It is made of metal, bone, pottery, stone, or wood, and has been around since around 1000 BC, but was introduced to Greece in the 5th century BC and was used during the Greco-Roman period.

古代の飲食器の一種。角製や角状の杯で,また動物の頭部をかたどり,首部にあたる部分が開口部になっている。のど部にあたる部分がそり返っていたり,有角のものは,角が柄になっていることが多い。金属・骨・陶・石・木製で,古くは前 1000年頃からあったが,特に前5世紀にギリシアに入り,ギリシア・ローマ時代に使われた。
