A family of Flemish instrument makers who produced harpsichords and virginals from the 16th century to the mid-17th century. They had a tremendous influence on keyboard instrument making of their own time and in the 18th century, and their instruments are highly regarded as models for the revival of keyboard instrument making in the 20th century, especially for their excellent tone. (1) Hans R. (c. 1540 to c. 1550-98) Most of the instruments that remain today are virginals from the 1680s and 1690s. They also produced organs, but none remain.
