Japanese: 寄生去勢 - きせいきょせい

A phenomenon in which an animal infected with a parasite undergoes a change in sexual characteristics, as if the reproductive glands had been removed (castration). Good examples include the feminization of male crabs infected with sea urchins, and shrimp and crabs infected with parasites that turn the testes into ovaries. It is thought that the parasitism suppresses the development of the androgenic gland, resulting in impaired secretion of androgenic gland hormones. The phenomenon in which sexual characteristics change in insects due to parasites is also sometimes called parasitic castration.

寄生虫の寄生を受けた動物が，あたかも生殖腺を除去（去勢）されたときのように性形質に変化を生ずる現象。フクロムシ類に寄生された雄のカニの雌化や，ヤドリムシ類に寄生されて精巣が卵巣化するエビ・カニ類などがその好例。寄生によって造雄腺の発達が抑えられ，造雄腺ホルモンの分泌障害が起こるのが原因と考えられる。なお，昆虫類で寄生虫によって性徴変化が起こる現象についても寄生去勢と呼ぶことがある。
