Name - Name

Japanese: 名ノリ - なのり

A term used in Noh and Kyogen. It is also written as "nanori" or "nasen." It is one of the small Noh plays. In this part, the characters introduce themselves and talk about what is to come. It consists of three parts: an introduction of their status, an explanation of the course of events, and a preview of their actions. There are many short sentences in the soro style, and they are usually entirely composed of kotoba. There are some that are more like a chatterbox, such as "Koinoomoni," which has a long explanation of the course of events, and others that only use the section introducing their status, such as "Tsuchigumo" and "Yuya," which have a fussi. 能･狂言の用語。名乗り，名宣とも書く。謡事小段の一つ。登場した役が，名を名のり，今後のことを述べるところで，身分紹介，成行き説明，行動予告の3部分から成る。候（そうろう）調の短文が多く，普通はすべてコトバから成る。《恋重荷（こいのおもに）》などのように成行き説明の部分が長いシャベリふうのものや，《土蜘蛛（つちぐも）》《熊野（ゆや）》などのように身分紹介の部分のみフシにするものなどがある。【松本雍】
