〘Noun〙 Shamisen music developed as an accompaniment to Edo Kabuki. It began in Genroku ( 1688-1704 ) but was perfected after the Kyoho ( 1716-36 ) era. It reached its heyday after the Bunka ( 1804-1818 ) era, and around this time songs that were separate from Kabuki were created and became widely popular after the Meiji era. Nagauta.
