Ridged Pottery

Japanese:
Ridged Pottery
This is the oldest Jomon pottery in Japan. Pottery of this type includes pieces with pea-sized clay nodules attached, pieces with clay strings wrapped around the rim in straight or curved patterns, and pieces with a similar effect created by dragging a spatula-shaped tool horizontally. It is thought that pieces with pea-sized attached patterns, known as "mamagome" patterns, belong to the oldest stage, and pieces with raised lines are newer as the patterns become finer, from raised lines to thin raised lines to micro raised lines. The vessels are deep bowls with round or flat bottoms and no curves, but all are small.
