Munich Putsch (English spelling)

Munich Putsch (English spelling)
A failed putsch attempted by A. Hitler in 1923. Also known as the Beer Hall Putsch. After the Kapp Putsch in March 1920, a royalist government was established in Bavaria, which became the base of reactionary forces throughout Germany. On the night of November 8, 1923, Hitler and 600 armed SA (Storm Troops) attacked a beer hall in Munich, threatening with a pistol the Bavarian State Chancellor and the State Guard Commander who were meeting there, forcing them to cooperate with Hitler's "National Revolution" putsch. However, the former Bavarian royal family and Catholic cardinals expressed their absolute opposition to the putsch because E. Ludendorff was a member of Hitler's group, and the putsch ultimately failed, with Hitler being sentenced to five years in prison.
