Dragon King - Ryuo

Japanese: 竜王 - りゅうおう

A region in the Kofu Basin in central Yamanashi Prefecture. Former town name. In 1956, Ryuo Village and Tamahata Village were merged to form a town. The name is said to be derived from the spring water called "Ryuo Water" that springs up at Jisho-ji Temple in the town. In September 2004, it merged with Shikishima Town and Futaba Town to become Kai City. It is located on the alluvial plain on the left bank of the Kamanashi River and is blessed with rice fields, but fruit trees and vegetables are also grown in greenhouses. As it borders the west of Kofu City, it is being developed into residential areas. The embankment on the bank of the Kamanashi River was built by Takeda Shingen over a period of 20 years starting in Tenbun 11 (1542), and is called Shingen Embankment. The JR Chuo Main Line, the Chuo Expressway, and national highways 20 and 52 pass through the area.

山梨県中部，甲府盆地の一地域。旧町名。 1956年竜王村，玉幡村が合体し町制。地名は町内の慈照寺に湧く「竜王水」と呼ばれる湧水にちなむといわれる。 2004年9月敷島町，双葉町と合併し甲斐市となった。釜無川左岸の沖積地にあり，水田に恵まれるが，果樹栽培や野菜の施設栽培も行なわれる。甲府市の西に接するため，宅地化が進んでいる。釜無川河岸の堤防は武田信玄が天文 11 (1542) 年から 20年の歳月をかけて構築したもので，信玄堤と呼ばれる。 JR中央本線，中央自動車道，国道 20号線，52号線が通る。
