Masanori Oguri

...He was the chief retainer of Matsudaira Mitsunaga of the Echigo Takada Domain. His name was Masanori. He took over his father Gorozaemon's position after he was crushed to death in the Great Takada Earthquake in 1665 (Kanbun 5). He repaired Takada Castle and carried out the land readjustment of the castle town of Takada, resulting in the current townscape. He contributed to the development of new fields in Obukke-go, the excavation of the Nakae and Obukake irrigation canals, the construction of the port of Naoetsu, and the mining of silver in Uonuma, all of which contributed to the development of industry and prosperity of the domain, but he was ordered to commit seppuku by the shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi due to the so-called Echigo Disturbance.
