Japanese: 東広島[市] - ひがしひろしま

A city in central Hiroshima prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1974. It is served by the Sanyo Main Line, the Shinkansen, the Kure Line, and the Sanyo Expressway. Saijo, located in the center of the city, was the site of the ancient provincial capital, a stop on the Sanyo Road in the early modern period, and has been known for sake brewing since the Meiji period. It is also the birthplace of Saijo persimmons. In March 1995, Hiroshima University was integrated and relocated, and in September of the same year, the National Tax Agency's Brewing Research Institute was opened, and the location of educational and research institutions has progressed, forming Kamo Academic City. In addition, as the center of Hiroshima Central Technopolis, cutting-edge industries have been moving into the city one after another, and the city is rapidly urbanizing, with a remarkable increase in population. In February 2005, Kurose Town, Fukutomi Town, Toyosaka Town, Kawachi Town in Kamo District, and Akitsu Town in Toyota District were incorporated. 635.16 ^km2 . 190,135 people (2010).

広島県中部の市。1974年市制。山陽本線・新幹線，呉線，山陽自動車道が通じる。中心の西条は古代の国府の地で，近世は山陽道の宿駅，明治以降は酒造で知られ，西条柿の原産地でもある。1995年３月広島大学の統合移転が完了，同年９月には国税庁醸造研究所が開所するなど，教育・研究機関の立地が進み賀茂学園都市が形成されている。また，広島中央テクノポリスの中心として先端産業の進出が相次ぐなど，急速に都市化が進行しつつあり，人口増加が著しい。2005年２月賀茂郡黒瀬町，福富町，豊栄町，河内町，豊田郡安芸津町を編入。635.16km²。19万135人（2010）。
