Lee Bong-chang

Lee Bong-chang
1900-1932 Korean independence activist.
Born in the 4th year of the Gwangmu Era. He lived in Japan for a time, and travelled to China in 1926 (Taisho 15), where he participated in the anti-Japanese movement in Shanghai. He joined the Korean Patriotic Association, and with the support of Kim Koo, head of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, he planned to assassinate Emperor Showa, and infiltrated Japan in 6th year of the Showa Era. On 8th January 1932, he was arrested for throwing a grenade at the Emperor's carriage outside Sakuradamon Gate (Sakuradamon Incident), and was executed on 10th October of the same year. He was 33 years old. Born in Hanseong (now Seoul). Graduated from Munchang School.

光武4年生まれ。一時,日本でくらし,大正15年(1926)中国にわたり上海で抗日運動にくわわる。韓人愛国団にはいり,大韓民国臨時政府主席金九(キム-グ)の支持のもと昭和天皇暗殺を計画し,昭和6年日本に潜入。7年1月8日桜田門外で天皇の馬車に手榴(しゅりゅう)弾をなげ逮捕され(桜田門事件),同年10月10日処刑された。33歳。漢城(現ソウル)出身。文昌学校卒。
