Goura - Izura

Located in Otsu Town, Kitaibaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, this scenic coastal area features cliffs and inlets formed by the spurs of the Abukuma Plateau jutting out into the Pacific Ocean. It is called Goura because there are five W-shaped inlets. In 1906 (Meiji 39), Okakura Tenshin moved the Japan Art Institute here with his students, including Yokoyama Taikan, and the remains, including the hexagonal, vermilion-painted Hexagonal Hall (washed away in the Great East Japan Earthquake, rebuilt in 2012), are now the Ibaraki University Goura Art and Culture Research Institute. The Prefectural Tenshin Memorial Goura Museum of Art opened in 1997 (Heisei 9). It is part of Hanazono Hanananuki Prefectural Natural Park. It is a 15-minute bus ride from Otsuko Station on the JR Joban Line.

茨城県北茨城市大津町にあり、阿武隈(あぶくま)高地の支脈が太平洋に突き出てつくる断崖(だんがい)と入り江をもつ海岸景勝地。W字型に入り込んだ入り江が五つあるところから五浦とよばれる。1906年（明治39）岡倉天心が横山大観(たいかん)らの門下生とともに日本美術院を移した所で、六角形、朱塗りの六角堂（東日本大震災で流失、2012年再建）などの遺跡は茨城大学五浦美術文化研究所となっている。県立天心記念五浦美術館が1997年（平成9）開館した。花園花貫(はなぞのはなぬき)県立自然公園の一部をなす。JR常磐(じょうばん)線大津港駅からバス15分。
