A common name for a group of plants that live on land. It is not a formal name for the taxonomic group. It is thought to have been coined by FO Bower in 1908. It is a term with roughly the same meaning as embryo plants and stem-leaf plants, and includes mosses and vascular plants. In ecology, it is also used as terrestrial plants in contrast to aquatic plants. [Makoto Nishida] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
