Maturity - Manki

Japanese: 満期 - まんき
Maturity - Manki

The maturity date is the date on which the bill is to be paid, as written on the bill. It usually coincides with the payment date as stated in the Bills of Negotiable Instruments Act. However, if the maturity date falls on a statutory holiday, the first trading day after that will be the payment date (Article 72, Paragraph 1 of the Bills of Negotiable Instruments Act). Therefore, the maturity date and the payment date may differ. A bill is claimed by presenting it on the payment date (usually the maturity date, or if that falls on a holiday, the first trading day after that) and within two trading days following that.

There are four types of maturity: fixed date payment (maturing on the fixed date), periodic post-date payment (maturing on the last day of the period written on the bill after the date of issue), sight payment (maturing on the date of presentation for payment, i.e., sight), and periodic post-sight payment (presentation for sight is made to the issuer within one year from the date of issue, and maturing is the last day of the period written on the bill from the sight date). If no maturity date is stated, it is considered a sight bill.
