A coastline with many bends formed as a result of mountains or hills carved into a river valley sinking relative to sea level. The ridges jut out into the sea as capes, while the river valleys sink to form bays. The name comes from the fact that this type of inlet is called a ria on the northwestern coast of Spain. In Japan, the Sanriku Coast and Ago Bay are famous. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
