Born November 10, 1888. Father of Ishihama Tsuneo. Researched ancient Oriental languages and Buddhist scriptures and ancient documents excavated in the Western Regions. Taught at Ryukoku University and other institutions, and became a professor at Kansai University in 1949. Chairman of the Japan Society for Tibetan Studies in 1953. Also known for his research on the Xixia language with Nevsky. Died February 11, 1968. Age 79. Born in Osaka. Graduated from Tokyo Imperial University.
