Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae)

Japanese: ラン藻類(藍藻類) - らんそうるい（英語表記）blue‐green algae

A division of lower organisms. Single-celled organisms that lack intracellular organelles such as a nucleus, mitochondria, or chloroplasts. Along with bacteria, they are prokaryotes and are distinguished from other higher eukaryotes. There are approximately 1,500 species in 1 class, 3 to 5 orders, 23 families, and 160 genera. Cyanobacteria contain pigment proteins such as phycocyanin in addition to chlorophyll a in their chloroplasts, and produce and store cyanobacterial starch through photosynthesis. For this reason, they are classified as a division of photosynthetic plants and are sometimes called cyanobacteria.

下等生物の一門。核，ミトコンドリア，葉緑体などの細胞内小器官をもたない単細胞の生物で，バクテリアとともに原核生物として，他の高等な真核生物と区別される。1綱3～5目23科160属約1500の種をもつ。ラン藻類は葉緑体内にクロロフィルaのほかフィコシアニンなどの色素タンパク質を含み，光合成によりラン藻デンプンを生成，貯蔵する。このことから，分類上光合成植物の一門として扱い，ラン色植物と呼ぶこともある。
