Kamei Ryukyu no Kami

Japanese: 亀井琉球守 - かめいりゅうきゅうのかみ
Kamei Ryukyu no Kami

...A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. A former retainer of the Amago clan, he was from Izumo. He was originally from the Yu clan, but changed his name to Kamei during the reign of Tsunenori. He was a vassal of Oda Nobunaga and later became an independent military commander. After Nobunaga's death, he served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and in 1585 (Tensho 13) he was granted the rank of Musashi no Kami with the rank of Junior Fifth Rank, and also sailed to sea during the Bunroku-Keicho War. In the Battle of Sekigahara, he was on the eastern side, and was awarded an additional 24,500 koku in recognition of his achievements, giving him a fief of 38,000 koku in Inaba Province. He had a strong interest in foreign countries, as evidenced by the legend that Hideyoshi granted him the title of Ryukyu no Kami, and his activities as a red seal ship trader. ...
