Formerly known as Luluabourg, Luluabourg is a city in the central-southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is the capital of the Kasai Occidental Province. It is located about 800 km southeast of Kinshasa, on the Lulua River, a tributary of the Kasai River. The town was founded in 1884 as a military garrison, and in 1895 it became the site of resistance by Africans against the Belgians. It is a commercial center near the diamond fields, and is a processing center for cotton, coffee, palm oil, rice, pineapples, etc. In addition to livestock farming, beer brewing and printing are also carried out. There is a museum and a teacher training school. Population: 303,127 (estimated 1991). 旧称ルルアブール Luluabourg。コンゴ民主共和国中南部の都市。カサイオクシデンタル州の州都。キンシャサ東南東約 800km,カサイ川支流のルルア川沿岸に位置。 1884年,軍の駐屯地が建設されたのが町の起源で,95年ベルギー人に対するアフリカ人の抵抗の地となった。ダイヤモンド産地を控えた商業中心地で,綿花,コーヒー,パーム油,米,パイナップルなどの集散,加工地。牧畜のほかビール醸造,印刷なども行われる。博物館,教員養成学校がある。人口 30万 3127 (1991推計) 。
