Aurugh (English spelling)

Aurugh (English spelling)
During the Mongol Empire, it meant a military base established in the hinterland of a battlefield, and later during the Yuan Dynasty, it meant a conscription district. It is also transcribed as aghrugh. The original language is said to be eastern ancient Turkish, and in the 13th century Secret History of the Mongol Dynasty, it is used to mean a camp for an army while away from home, or a camp for the elderly and the young. Turco-Mongolian nomads have always taken their entire family and belongings with them when they went on expeditions. When they approached the battlefield, women, the elderly, and the young would camp in the rear, forming a military base for the front line. After the early great expeditions of the Mongol Empire came to an end, and military corps were stationed on the front lines in non-nomadic areas such as northern China to maintain occupied territories, this custom was applied, and specific areas were designated to supply soldiers, weapons, and food to certain military corps.
