Spanish composer and pianist. Along with Albéniz, he is one of the leading figures of the modern Spanish folk music school. Born in Lleida, he studied piano under Pujol and Pedrell in Barcelona, and then under de Bério in Paris. He returned to Barcelona in 1889 and made his debut with Grieg's Piano Concerto and his own "Spanish Dances." He continued to perform actively as a pianist, performing with Saint-Saëns and Casals, while also founding the "Academia Granados" in 1901 and working to train the next generation of pianists.

His fame as a composer and performer reached its peak in 1914 when he held a concert of his own compositions at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. The main piece on this occasion was his masterpiece, the piano suite "Goyescas" (2 volumes, 6 songs) (1911). Inspired by Goya's paintings, this masterpiece was reconstructed as an opera in 1916 and premiered in New York due to the First World War, where it was a great success. On the way back, the British steamship Sussex he was on was sunk by a German submarine in the English Channel, and he died with his wife on March 24 of the same year. His works depict Spanish customs and stories of men and women with a unique fragrance. Other masterpieces include the piano piece "Spanish Dances" (2 volumes, 1900), the opera "Maria del Carmen" (1898), the song collection "Tonadillas" (1912), and "Love Songs" (1914).
