Lake Shibayama

A lagoon in the southwest of Ishikawa Prefecture. It belongs to Kaga City. It is separated from the Sea of ​​Japan by the Shinohara Sand Dunes. Since reclamation began in 1952, its current area is 1.77 square kilometers, its maximum depth is 4.5 meters, and its water surface is 0.65 meters above sea level. Before reclamation, the area was 5.8 square kilometers, and it collected water from the Iburibashi River and other rivers, which flowed through Imae Lagoon and into the Sea of ​​Japan via the Kakehashi River, but it was often flooded and caused damage to farmland. The reclamation resulted in the development of about 300 hectares of rice paddies, and the Shinbori River was excavated by cutting through the sand dunes to drain the water into the Sea of ​​Japan. Carp, crucian carp, and mussels have been produced here, but polluted water has become a problem. The lake shore is part of the Echizen Kaga Coast National Park, and Katayamazu Onsen is located on the south shore.

石川県南西部にある潟湖(せきこ)。加賀市に属す。篠原(しのはら)砂丘により日本海と隔たる。1952年（昭和27）に始まる干拓化により、現在の面積は1.77平方キロメートル、最大水深4.5メートル、水面標高0.65メートル。干拓前の面積は5.8平方キロメートルで、動橋(いぶりばし)川などの水を集め、今江(いまえ)潟を経て梯(かけはし)川で日本海に注いだが、たびたび冠水し農地に被害を与えた。干拓による開田は約300ヘクタールに上り、砂丘を切って新堀川が開削され、日本海に排水する。コイ、フナ、シジミなどを産したが、汚水が問題になっている。湖岸一帯は越前(えちぜん)加賀海岸国定公園の一部で、南岸に片山津温泉(かたやまづおんせん)がある。
