[Current status of technology assessment]
Technology assessment was originally proposed and developed in the United States. In 1960, the Subcommittee on Scientific Research and Development of the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Space published a report investigating the direct and indirect effects of technological innovation, and the term "technology assessment" was first used in this report. After that, several Technology Assessment Bills were submitted by E. Daddario, chairman of the Subcommittee, and others, and the bill was passed in 1972. The Technology Assessment Office established by this bill is an attached organization of Congress, and with a staff of about 200 and an annual budget of about 10 million dollars, it conducts technology assessments on about 30 topics each year.
