Ady Endre
Born: November 22, 1877 in Ehrminzent
Died January 27, 1919. Hungarian poet from Budapest. Widely known internationally as one of the leading poets of 20th century Hungary. After graduating from the University of Debrecen, he became a reporter for a local newspaper. He was recognized for publishing Versek (Poems) in 1899, and stayed in Paris three times between 1904 and 1911, where he was influenced by French Symbolism. After returning to Japan, he established himself as a poet with Új versek (New Poems) (1906). Thereafter, as a central leader of the literary magazine Nyugat (West), he led the Western and radical factions and confronted the conservative factions. His works include over a dozen poetry collections, such as Vér és arany (Blood and Gold) (07) and Az Illés szekerén (Elia's Car) (Az Illés szekerén) (08), as well as essays and short stories criticizing civilization and society.

ハンガリーの詩人。 20世紀ハンガリーの代表的詩人として,国際的に広く知られている。デブレツェン大学卒業後,地方新聞の記者となった。 1899年に『詩集』 Versekを発表して認められ,1904年から 11年にかけて3度パリに滞在,フランス象徴派の影響を受けた。帰国後『新詩集』 Új versek (1906) によって詩人としての地位を確立,以後,文芸雑誌『西洋』 Nyugatの中心的指導者として西欧派,急進派の先頭に立ち,保守派と対決した。作品には『血と金』 Vér és arany (07) ,『エリアの車』 Az Illés szekerén (08) など十数編の詩集のほか,文明批評,社会批評の論文や短編小説もある。
