Hasumi [village] - Hasumi

Japanese: 羽須美[村] - はすみ

A village in Ochi County in central Shimane Prefecture. Population 2,304 (1995). A mountain village on the west bank of the middle reaches of the Gono River, which runs through the Chugoku Mountains. There is a small amount of cultivated land along the Izumo River, a tributary of the Gono River, where livestock, tobacco, and highland vegetables are cultivated. In the early modern period, the area was a thriving ironworks, and many remains of kannanagashi and tatara canals remain today. A cattle and horse market has been held at Kamo Shrine in Asuna since ancient times, and in the early modern period this developed into the Asuna Market, where lively trade in kimonos, small items, sake, and other items was carried out.

島根県中央部，邑智郡の村。人口2304(1995)。中国山地を貫流する江の川中流西岸に位置する山村で，江の川の支流出羽川沿いにわずかに耕地がひらけ，畜産，タバコ，高冷地野菜の栽培が行われる。近世には製鉄業が盛んな地域で，現在も鉄穴流（かんなながし）やたたらの跡が数多く残っている。阿須那の賀茂神社では古くから牛馬市が開かれていたが，近世に阿須那市見世に発展し，呉服や小間物，清酒などの取引が活発であった。
