[Cultural History]
The popular belief that letting a praying mantis bite a wart will cure it seems to have been around for a long time in various parts of Japan, and it is still known by the nicknames Ibomushiri, Ibojiri, and Ibomushi. It is also said that if an arrowhead is deeply embedded and difficult to remove, the arrowhead will come out naturally if the powder of this insect dried in the shade (called Gonposan) is applied to the wound.
