Rank - Iroku

Japanese:
Rank - Iroku

A type of salary paid to Ritsuryo bureaucrats. In the Taiho and Yoro Roku-ryo, it was stipulated that from Shoichii to Jusanmi, ifu was given, and for the 4th and 5th ranks, stipends were given. Fourth, Junior Fourth, Fifth, and Fifth ranks were given equal amounts of cloth, cotton, and cloth, and women were given half of that. If an employee was absent for two years without a valid reason, both the stipend and stipend were suspended. Going back to the Kiyomihara-ryo, which went into effect in June 689 (the 3rd year of the reign of Empress Jito), all employees with direct ranks and above, which are equivalent to the 5th rank and above in terms of structural contrast with the rank system, were eligible for ifu. After the Taiho Code (701) was enacted, in November 705 (Keiun 2), the fifth rank was changed from a title to a stipend, but in February of the following year, it was decided to grant titles to the fourth rank, so in effect, only fifth rank bureaucrats were given stipends.
