Wounded Knee

Japanese: ウーンデッド・ニー(英語表記)Wounded Knee
Wounded Knee
A place name in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in southwestern South Dakota, United States. It is famous as the site of the last massacre of Indians by whites. On December 29, 1890, a group of Sioux led by Chief Big Foot was surrounded by the 7th Cavalry and surrendered. A single gunshot triggered the massacre, and about 200 Indians, including women and children, were killed by the soldiers. Since the late 1960s, with the rise of Indian nationalism, Wounded Knee has become a sacred place for "Red Power." On February 28, 1973, the American Indian Movement (AIM) occupied the site and declared the independence of the Sioux Nation, attracting public attention.
