This is a pre-pottery site located in Idehigashi, Takeuchi, Niisato Village, Seta District, Gunma Prefecture. It occupies a corner of the vast southern foot of Mount Akagi, about 5 km from the Iwajuku site. Excavation was carried out by Meiji University in 1954, and a wealth of stone tools and stone fragments, totaling nearly 5,000 items, were discovered in an excavation area of about 150 m2. Stratigraphically, it is divided into the Takei II stone tool culture in the soft part of the upper loam layer just below the surface soil, and the Takei I stone tool culture contained in the black band in the lower layer. Takei I contained a total of 44 items, of which the characteristics are unknown except for a few knife-shaped stone tools. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
