Reichenbach - Hans Reichenbach

Reichenbach - Hans Reichenbach

A philosopher of science born in Hamburg, Germany. He was closely involved with the logical positivism movement throughout the 1920s and 1930s, and in 1938 he moved to the United States, where he played a major role in the development of the philosophy of science. His work covers almost all areas of the philosophy of science. In scientific methodology, he proposed a foundation for induction by interpreting probability as the limit of relative frequency. His Philosophie der Raum-Zeit-Lehre (1928), which examines various problems of space and time with a focus on the theory of relativity, is a classic in this field. In the foundations of quantum mechanics, he proposed an interpretation based on a three-valued logic that has the value "indefinite" in addition to true or false, in his Philosophical Foundations of Quantum Mechanics (1944).
