A research group on the Taisho and Showa periods. It was founded in November 1924 by Yoshino Sakuzo, who was concerned about the large-scale disappearance of Meiji-period cultural assets in the Great Kanto Earthquake of the previous year, and eight private researchers, including Ishii Kendo, Osatake Takeshi, Ono Hideo, Miyatake Gaikotsu, and Fujii Jintaro, joined the group in its early days. The group's purpose was to "research all aspects of society since the early Meiji period and to present these as materials for the history of our nation." At regular meetings, the group's and researchers' research, as well as recollections from contemporaries, were presented. In February 1950, the group launched the magazine "New and Old Times," which had published 23 issues by February 1952, after which it was renamed "Meiji Cultural Studies."
