Transverse occipitalis muscle

…Between the spinous processes of the spine and the occipital bone, there is an elastic ligament called the nuchal septum (or nuchal ligament), which acts like a rubber band to hold the head back and prevent it from bending forward. On both sides of the nuchal septum, there are embankments of muscles (mainly the transverse occipitalis muscles), which creates a depression in the midline of the outer surface of the nape of the neck. It is particularly well developed in children.
