Thank you paper - Raishi

Japanese: 礼紙 - らいし
Thank you paper - Raishi
A term used in paleography. Originally, it referred to the wrapping paper used to enclose letters sent to others. When sending a letter, one or two blank sheets of paper of the same quality were added to the main text as a matter of courtesy. These blank sheets were called 'reishi' (thank you paper). 'Reishi' was sometimes used as a writing paper for the continuation of the main text or for follow-up notes.
