Educational Affairs Bureau

Japanese: 教学局 - きょうがくきょく

An administrative agency established as an external bureau of the Ministry of Education in 1937 based on the report of the Educational Reform Council. It was an advanced successor to the Ideology Bureau, which had previously been in charge of ideological measures for students, and was tasked with the renewal and promotion of education. It became an internal bureau of the Ministry of Education in 1942, and when the Library Bureau and the Educational Bureau were abolished in 1943, it took over the duties of both bureaus. In the final stages of World War II, it carried out powerful ideological administration and played a major role in controlling the thoughts of the people.

1937年教学刷新評議会の答申に基づいて，文部省の外局として設置された行政機関。従来，学生，生徒の思想対策を担当していた思想局を発展的に継承したもので教学の刷新と振興を任務とした。 42年文部省の内局となり，43年の図書局と教化局の廃止に伴って両局の所掌事務を包摂した。第2次世界大戦の末期にあって，強力な思想行政を展開し，国民の思想統制に大きな役割を果した。
