Founded in Chicago, USA in 1917, it is an international community service organization with 36,996 clubs and 1,331,055 members (1984) in 157 countries and territories around the world. Its official name is the International Association of Lions Clubs, and its headquarters are in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA. Each Lions club is a unit that makes up the international association, and carries out various service activities in the area in which the club exists.
