Kamii Kakuken Diary - Kamii Kakuken Diary

This is the diary of Kamii Ise no Kami Kakkane (1545-89), lord of Miyazaki Castle and chief retainer of Shimazu Yoshihisa, a feudal lord in southern Kyushu during the Warring States period. It is also called the "Ise no Kami Diary." Many parts are missing, and only 27 volumes of the original remain, covering 13 years from August 1574 (Tensho 2), with the focus on articles from November 1582 (Tensho 10) to October 1586. The contents are wide-ranging, including the expansion of the Shimazu clan's territory during this period, matters related to the control of the domain, and the lives of high-ranking samurai. He is famous for writing, "The Shimazu clan has been a distinguished family since Yoritomo, and the regent of Hashiba (Toyotomi Hideyoshi) is laughable." The original, formerly owned by the Shimazu clan, is currently kept at the Historiographical Institute of the University of Tokyo, and the published version is included in the "Dai Nihon Koroku."

南九州の戦国大名島津義久(しまづよしひさ)の家老、宮崎城主上井伊勢守(いせのかみ)覚兼（1545―89）の日記。「伊勢守日記」ともいう。欠失が多く、現在1582年（天正10）11月から86年10月までの記事を中心に、1574年（天正2）8月からの13年分27冊の原本が残されている。内容は、この時期の島津氏の版図拡大のようす、領国支配に関する事柄、上級武士の生活など多岐にわたる。「島津家は頼朝(よりとも)以来の名家、羽柴(はしば)（豊臣(とよとみ)秀吉）の関白は笑止」と記したことは有名。島津家旧蔵の原本は現在東京大学史料編纂所(へんさんじょ)にあり、刊本を『大日本古記録』に収める。
