Uwa Sea

Japanese: 宇和海 - うわうみ

A district of Uwajima City in southwestern Ehime Prefecture, including the Chiyouchi Peninsula and the southern islands of the Uwakai Sea. Former village name. The former Uwakai Village was established in 1958 by merging the five villages of Hiburijima, Toshima, Yusu, Shitaba, and Komobuchi. It was incorporated into Uwajima City in 1974. The coastline is a ria. The main industries are citrus cultivation, sardine netting and fishing, and pearl and yellowtail farming. The area is part of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park.

Uwa Sea

The area lies in the western part of Ehime Prefecture, south of the Sadamisaki Peninsula, and in the eastern part of the Bungo Channel. There are many reefs called "bae" within a depth of 100m, and pearls and yellowtail are cultivated in the bays of the ria coast. The northern part of the coastline is part of the Sadamisaki Peninsula-Uwakai Prefectural Natural Park, and the area south of Toshima and Hiburijima belongs to the Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park.

愛媛県南西部，蒋淵半島と宇和海 (うわかい) の南部の島を含む宇和島市の地区。旧村名。旧宇和海村は日振島，戸島，遊子 (ゆす) ，下波 (したば) ，蒋淵 (こもぶち) の5村が合体して，1958年発足。 74年宇和島市に編入された。海岸線はリアス式。柑橘類の栽培，イワシ網と釣り，真珠とハマチ養殖が主産業。一帯は足摺宇和海国立公園に属する。
