This road suspension bridge straddles the entrance to the Golden Gate Strait in the United States, connecting San Francisco with the Marin Peninsula on the opposite shore to the north. It is also known as the Golden Gate Bridge. With a total length of over 2,800 meters and a central span (distance between towers) of 1,280 meters, it was the longest in the world for a quarter century after its completion in 1937. The two main towers supporting the cables stand 227 meters above sea level, and the girders are stretched 67 meters above sea level so that even large ships on the Pacific Ocean route can navigate underneath them. This large suspension bridge can be said to be a symbol of America on the West Coast.

アメリカ合衆国ゴールデン･ゲート海峡の入口をまたいでサンフランシスコ市と北方対岸のマリン半島を結ぶ道路つり橋。金門橋の名でもなじみ深い。全長2800m余りで，中央支間長(主塔間隔)1280mは，1937年完成以後四半世紀にわたって世界一を誇った。ケーブルを支える2基の主塔は海面上227mの高さにそびえ，太平洋航路の巨船もその下を航行可能なように海面上67mの高さに桁をかけ渡したこの大つり橋は，西海岸におけるアメリカのシンボルといえよう。
