Born October 21, 1906. Second son of Takahama Kyoshi. Studied at the Paris Conservatory and returned to Japan in 1936. Served as professor at Nihon University and Tokyo Music School (now Tokyo University of the Arts), and nurtured many composers. Received the Légion d'honneur in 1961. Became a Person of Cultural Merit in 1986. Also a haiku poet. Died March 9, 1991. Age 84. Born in Tokyo. Major works include "Four Sonatinas" and books such as "Counterpoint".
