A group of warriors from the end of the Heian period to the early Kamakura period. They were a branch of the Yokoyama clan, based in Yokoyama, Musashi Province (present-day Hachioji City), and were one of the Seven Clans of Musashi. The Yokoyama clan claimed to be descendants of Ono no Takamura, and were also known as the Ono clan. The clan was based in the Tama River basin, and expanded into the Sagami River basin in Sagami Province. They followed Minamoto no Yoriyoshi in the Battle of Zenkunen, and Minamoto no Yoshitomo in the Hogen and Heiji Rebellions. When Minamoto no Yoritomo raised his army, Yokoyama Tokihiro and Yokoyama Tokikane, father and son, played an active role and became vassals. However, they were defeated after siding with Wada Yoshimori in the Wada War in 1213, and went into decline thereafter. → Related article Funakida-so Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
