A nomadic tribe whose native language is Iranian. They currently live in southwestern Pakistan, southeastern Iran, northwestern Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan. Their total population is over 2 million (estimated in the 1970s), 60% of whom live in Pakistan. Their current homeland, commonly known as Baluchistan, is not their original homeland, and they are said to have originally lived in the Kerman region of Iran. When the Seljuk Dynasty invaded this region, they began to move eastward, passing through Makran and advancing into Sindh and Punjab. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
