Bitchu [town] - Bitchu

Japanese: 備中[町] - びっちゅう

A former town in Kawakami District, western Okayama Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Nariwa River, a tributary of the Takahashi River, and has steep valley walls. The settlements on the Kibi Plateau are called Norogata, and those at the bottom of the valley are called Tanigata, with most of the cultivated land in Norogata. The main settlement is Fuka in Norogata. The town produces tobacco, konjac, tomatoes, and raises livestock. The Ryujin character rock (historic site) is a monument commemorating the opening of the Takasebune shipping route. In October 2004, it was incorporated into Takahashi City along with Arikan Town in Kamibo District, Nariwa Town in Kawakami District, and Kawakami Town. ^{102.56 km2} . 2,973 people (2003).

岡山県西部，川上郡の旧町。高梁(たかはし)川の支流成羽(なりわ)川上流域を占め，谷壁は急峻。集落は吉備(きび)高原上のものを野呂方(のろがた)，谷底のものを谷方と呼び，耕地は野呂方に多い。主集落は野呂方の布賀(ふか)。タバコ，コンニャク，トマトを産し，畜産を行う。笠神(りゅうじん)の文字岩（史跡）は高瀬舟開通の記念碑。2004年10月上房郡有漢町，川上郡成羽町，川上町と高梁市へ編入。102.56km²。2973人（2003）。
