Bitchu [town] - Bitchu
A former town in Kawakami District, western Okayama Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Nariwa River, a tributary of the Takahashi River, and has steep valley walls. The settlements on the Kibi Plateau are called Norogata, and those at the bottom of the valley are called Tanigata, with most of the cultivated land in Norogata. The main settlement is Fuka in Norogata. The town produces tobacco, konjac, tomatoes, and raises livestock. The Ryujin character rock (historic site) is a monument commemorating the opening of the Takasebune shipping route. In October 2004, it was incorporated into Takahashi City along with Arikan Town in Kamibo District, Nariwa Town in Kawakami District, and Kawakami Town. 102.56 km2 . 2,973 people (2003).
