text

Japanese: テキスト
text
It comes from the Latin word textus (meaning "woven fabric") and is also written as text. In French, it is texte. (1) In textual revision, the original text or main text written by the original author, in contrast to annotations added later. In cases where there are several variants in a manuscript, the revisionist selects or compromises among the differences and decides on the version that best reflects the original author. (2) In structuralism and semiotics, it refers to something constructed from linguistic symbols. It is based on the perspective of looking across genres that were previously considered separate, such as novels and records, as symbols that have a meaning. Furthermore, anything that can be interpreted as a symbol can be considered a text. For example, city texts, architectural texts, and video texts.
