A city in northwestern Iran. Also known as Urumiyeh. Located at an altitude of 1,332m near Lake Urumiyeh, it is in the center of a fertile plain. Irrigation produces grapes and other fruits, as well as high-quality tobacco. It is a key transportation point on the road around the lake from Tabriz, and also has an airport.
