Born: March 9, 1885/March 10, 1885, St. Petersburg, Russia
[Died] May 26, 1978. Beaconsfield, England. Russian ballerina. She made her debut as a member of the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet Company in 1902, dancing in Swan Lake, The Corsairs, and other works. In 1909, she actively participated in Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev's Ballets Russes with Anna Pavlova and Mikhail Fokine. She danced Les Sylphides, Carnival, Petrushka, The Fairy of the Rose, The Firebird, Tamar, Daphnis and Chloe, and Pulcinella with Vaslav F. Nijinsky and Fokine as partners. At the same time, she continued to work as the prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre, and was said to be a classical ballerina who rejected acrobatic techniques. After 1918, she settled in London, and even after her retirement, she continued to train the next generation of ballerinas in England. His books include Theatre Street (1930) and Classical Ballet: The Flow of Movement (1962).

ロシアのバレリーナ。1902年マリインスキー劇場バレエ団の一員としてデビューし,『白鳥の湖』『海賊』などを踊った。1909年アンナ・パブロワ,ミハイル・フォーキンとともに積極的にセルゲイ・パブロビッチ・ディアギレフのバレエ・リュスに参加。『レ・シルフィード』『カルナバル』『ペトルーシカ』『ばらの精』『火の鳥』『タマール』『ダフニスとクロエ』『プルチネルラ』などを,ワスラフ・F.ニジンスキーやフォーキンをパートナーに踊った。並行してマリインスキー劇場のプリマ・バレリーナとして活動を続け,アクロバティックな技術を排したクラシック・バレリーナといわれた。1918年以後ロンドンに定住,引退後もイギリスで後進の育成にあたった。著書に『劇場街』Theatre Street(1930),『クラシック・バレエ――動きの流れ』Classical Ballet: The Flow of Movement(1962)がある。
