Born: March 9, 1885/March 10, 1885, St. Petersburg, Russia [Died] May 26, 1978. Beaconsfield, England. Russian ballerina. She made her debut as a member of the Mariinsky Theatre Ballet Company in 1902, dancing in Swan Lake, The Corsairs, and other works. In 1909, she actively participated in Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev's Ballets Russes with Anna Pavlova and Mikhail Fokine. She danced Les Sylphides, Carnival, Petrushka, The Fairy of the Rose, The Firebird, Tamar, Daphnis and Chloe, and Pulcinella with Vaslav F. Nijinsky and Fokine as partners. At the same time, she continued to work as the prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre, and was said to be a classical ballerina who rejected acrobatic techniques. After 1918, she settled in London, and even after her retirement, she continued to train the next generation of ballerinas in England. His books include Theatre Street (1930) and Classical Ballet: The Flow of Movement (1962).
