Arab poet and traveller. Dates of birth and death unknown. Also known as Ibn Muhalhil. In 943, he left Bukhara by order of the Samanid dynasty's Nasr II (reigned 914-943), travelled to Ganzhou in China, and returned to Iran via the Malay Peninsula and India. The travelogue he compiled includes records of the Turkish tribes he encountered along the way, making him an important historical source. He was later protected by the Buyid vizier. He also has travelogues about Armenia and northwestern Iran. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
