A man who competed with Kublai Khan for the position of fifth Khan of the Mongol Empire. Also known as Arik Boke. The seventh son of Genghis Khan's youngest son, Turui. Younger brother of Mongke and Kublai Khan. He remained in Karakorum (Helin) as a guardian when Mongke invaded the Southern Song Dynasty, and after Mongke's death, he became a regent and took the throne in Karakorum in 1260 in opposition to Kublai Khan's ascension to the throne. He fought against Kublai Khan, but the situation gradually became unfavorable, and he surrendered in 64. This made it possible for Kublai Khan to establish the Chinese-style Yuan dynasty. モンゴル帝国の第5代ハーン位をフビライと争った人。アリクボケともいう。チンギス･ハーンの末子トゥルイの第7子。モンケ，フビライの弟。モンケの南宋征討の際，カラコルム(和林)に留守職としてとどまり，モンケ没後，監国となり，フビライの即位に対抗して，1260年にカラコルムで即位した。そしてフビライと戦ったが，しだいに不利となり，64年に投降した。ここにフビライによる中国風王朝元の建国が可能となった。【吉田順一】
